Fighting Recidivism: One Story at a Time
Kari Bjorn Thorleifsson
Parsons School of Design, Photography (BFA)

By giving formerly incarcerated people cameras and a platform to express themselves, I aim to shed light on the obstacles those going through re-entry face.

More than 40% of the 725,000 that are released from prison each year are expected to go back within 3 years. The project’s goal is to show bluntly the challenges those going through re-entry face on a daily basis; where the system fails and changes need to be made. 4 formerly incarcerated men and women will be given use of a camera and web based platforms to express themselves, both through still images and video.
